Nokia mobiles gifted to Members of Parliament
Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology were gifted Nokia phones. On Sunday's meeting, they were given country-made mobile phones.
In the previous meeting, committee member Nurul Amin said that mobiles and laptops are manufactured under the ministry. The committee members were also assured of providing mobile sets to them. He wanted to know whether the sets were actually manufactured and about the quality of those mobile phones.
Later, State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “Md. Nurul Amin wanted to buy laptops and smartphones produced by the Telephone Shilpa Sangstha (TSS) at a fair price. Nokia sets are being manufactured at the Hi-Tech Park. The sets produced by Nokia priced at 14 thousand taka is very good and beautiful. The Nokia set manufactured in Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City will be bought and given as a gift to all the honorable members of the committee”. He mentioned that if they accept those, he will be pleased.
Then the minister said that currently, 15 mobile companies are producing mobile sets in Bangladesh. It caters to nearly 90 percent of domestic customer needs and these sets are also exported. Currently, laptops are being manufactured in Bangladesh. He explained the reason and purpose of setting up TSS in this context. He said arrangements will be made to provide mobile sets and laptops at minimum prices according to the needs of honorable members.
In view of this, they were given those phones.
In the absence of the chairman of the committee, the meeting chaired by Rezwan Ahmed Tawfiq, the committee members, the state minister in charge of ICTD, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Md. Nurul Amin, Monira Sultana, and Aparajita Haque participated in the meeting.
Senior Secretary of Information and Communication Technology Division, Secretary of Post and Telecommunication Department, and heads of various departments and organizations were present in the meeting.
